I've been considering the direction I want to take on this shard and with the recent TT/PWN debacle have been pondering the whole PK thing. Why does one PK? (Edit...PK as in player killing qualifying for murder counts, not the consensual pvp options) I didn't start PKing until Adam Ant formed GUL on Napa Valley. That was PKing I could get behind. Enforcement, and dare I say ownership, of a specified region of Brittania. Generally respectable looting and means to avoid the wrath. I like to believe it provided some semblence of purpose other than pure financial gain. This seems to be facilitated by the factions system now. In my recent ponderings about the only other reasons I can come up with for pking is enforcing justice, which is generally an accepted practice (counter griefing if you will), and WTFEasyMode easy profiteering. With so many other forms of combat, diving in on unsuspecting PvMers is difficult to claim, "It is for the fights man!" Anyway, what reasons am I missing...why do you PK?
I welcome any reason for a PK to do what they do. Without the danger that is so integral to playing UO, I would never play this game. I suppose I am disagreeing with your motives for creating this post. Rather than asking PKs to self-reflect and consider their choices to attack pvmers, I think that PKing should be viewed as a good thing regardless of their motives or who they attack and where they attack them. Like anyone, getting killed makes me angry, but I have no one to blame but myself whenever I feel upset after dying. Did I lose 200 of each reg? My fault for having that much on me. Did I lose 10 plat and 10k gold? My fault for not banking earlier. If my rage is directed toward the PK, I am in error because I am ignoring that I am at fault. While playing UO, one must be prepared to die and lose everything on them. Otherwise, they're playing the wrong game. In regards to the frustration that PwN is experiencing due to TT, I think you guys (PwN) will eventually get better at defending against these attacks. It takes practice to learn how to coordinate (synch) and field a barrage of PKs. Get creative, but do not ask the PKs to stop. To be honest, this will make them want to bother you more. PKs--regardless of their motives--make UO what it is. End of story. Sincerely, A pvmer
for fun. sure. rolling in 7v1 on a PvM character is no fun. but when it's like 7 tamers with 8 dragons which each do an instant 40+ damage firebreath.. i don't feel like that's as unfair as the phrase "diving in on unsuspecting PvMers" suggests. also, show me a PvMer that doesn't expect PKs to show up and i'll show you a fool.
It hasn't gone unnoticed that you seemed to be barely holding back some strong butthurt emotions. I would absolutely love to hear it out.
Why don't we stick to answering the OP's question in this thread, and use IRC/Trash Talk/PM to delve into my psyche and/or talk sh!t?
HEY! I resemble that fool! hehe. PK's say 'whut whut!' if you've been charged by Catalin shouting "SUFLARE VITALE!"
If they were standing around outside of Wrong I would agree but they are generally already engaged in not being overrun by whatever spawn with dragons that are typically out of mana, have firebreath timers at various stages so that firebreath sync you allude to does not occur. It isn't quite the challenge you present it as. Especially walking in and vent syncing a couple right off the bat. Anyway, good feedback. A variety of reasons. From what I have heard at least many of the PKs here police themselves and try not to be overbearing. It should be fun times in the field if I can just get my characters far enough along for it. I'll probably lean more anti than anything for now. Thanks guys!
Without PK's the games isn't quite as fun for me. It adds spice to the game. I semi enjoy when TT shows up at spawns occasionally that being said I'm not sending out invites. You need contrast in game between good and evil. I however do not enjoy repeated griefing which motivates one to have a red/pvp character of their own. PKin/PVPin also helps the merchants out! Why PK cause it makes them feel like a badass, at least in a pixelated world...
A PK is a lot of things, and it takes the right kind of player to do it right. You should only run solo, gank is overkill and takes away from the thrill of the hunt. I personally only call for backup when facing a 3v1 or more. You should be able to hold ur own in pvp. Keep in mind a PK is not a fair fighting pvp template. The element of surprise and panic are ur best friend. People are going to talk trash and criticize ur tactics regardless of what u do. What matters is: 1. Did u get the kill 2. Was the kill worth the count (loot/joy) 3. Are u still alive A PK is the player that bites, scratches, and kicks u in the nuts to ensure a win. They aren't concerned about the opinions of their victims. Allow me to quote Game of Thrones, "A lion does not concern himself with the opinions of sheep". I have my fans and I have my haters, but at the end of the day, I love being a PK.
For that brief moment when I'm standing over your corpse looking down at your lifeless body, and in that moment you know that I own you.
