As titled... how does this IRC function get it's prices? Is the "Price guide" on the forums here updated?
It pulls from a spreadsheet that DarkWing maintains (it's his bot). It started with Dalavar's price guide and he adjusts it as he sees need No. The price guide's author doesn't play anymore
How much does the market tend to deviate from the bot? I have concerns if prices are largely dictated by a black box procedure rather than the flow of the market. edit: I mean, I've been using it for over a year without concern so I'm not going to flubber and start stashing gold in my mattress.
It's a guide, no more. It's off to a certain degree on most things, but you can use it as a starting point.
I think it was intended to be a foundation to build upon. The trade forum (player base/supply/demand) clearly determines the price. Just because the bot may say spined leather is 25 gold doesn't mean I won't sell it to a eager BoDer for 30 once in awhile. On the contrary were I to inundate the market with 60k spined, I'd expect a lull in sales for awhile thereafter.... bot or no bot.
I wish though, when people make forum trades, that they don't erase the title and put just SOLD, but just put something like SOLD - Neon Sandals of Trammelness. That way, the next time someone needs to check the price of said Neon Sandals of Trammelness, a quick forum search will show up that Neon Sandals of Trammelness sold for 20mil gold + first born child.
I make most of my trade negotiations in game and ^ is one of the many reasons. Most of my regular "customers" have moved on and it looks like I'll have to use the trade forums again. I'm not looking forward to it.
Yeah, that's a habit that I've also found irksome. I generally just send a message to the seller politely asking if they mind disclosing around what it sold for. It is funny to consider an in-game commodities oversight commission or something.
