I heard this from another player and just encountered this minor bug. It seems when you are around NPCs, guild chat (and I believe party chat) will display above an NPC in the area. I tried in a few other buildings but wasn't able to repeat it so it might be only certain NPCs. Ill look for some other examples and post them here as I find.
