I think this is a good idea as well. Maybe we can vote what some of these items will do.

I think a revamp on cooking would work as well. I know it might be kind of controversal but maybe some food with stat/skill value. I understand that could change up the game but I really feel like that has ALWAYS been missing from Ultima.

I think seeds/gardening would be awesome to add in. I have been keeping my fertile dirt just in case. Are there any other uses currently for fertile dirt? If there are I can't remember them from 15-18 years ago.

Also, cooking revamp would indeed be awesome. Perhaps BODS for cooking with differing rewards, or even a gm cooker could bake 1/300 times a semi rare/rare type of item like a wedding cake or some other type of food.

Don't tinkering repair deeds do that? If not they should!

Just came across this thread. What a wonderful idea! I loved gardening in UO and it would be great to have it here just for decorative purposes. It sure would add to the game. I don't know if this is still on the table but based on the replies, it seems I'm not alone in thinking this way.

Gardening and a cooking boost are both great ideas.

Thread is two years old, but I'm still optimistic about gardening!

Uooooohh, there is no gardening here??? :(:(

This, honestly, makes me very sad. Didn't know this was originally implanted in a later era... I owned a large shop on Defiance a decade ago and I - of course - also sold a lot of plants. At the beginning I didn't plan to get that much into gardening. Always thought of it as kind of lame. However, a few days later, I was hooked. And I mean really hooked! I stopped all other activities and bought two additional 18x18 to create gardening centers. In the end I spent weeks exclusively with gardening! At some point I had so much fun in watering them, crossbreeding them, nurturing them, that I asked myself, why I didn't became a gardener in RL.

    THIS! Perfectly said!

It's not about rewards in the end, it's an entirely different playstyle!

Yes Sir, I take pride in knowing that a one point in my life I was gardener in Ultima Online! :)

And I can't see any harm by adding this to the shard, if it is entirely for decoration. Hell, I could even live with the neons, knowing that they are quite difficult to breed (is this the correct english word?), but can be sold at a very reasonable price. Everything's that adds to the game depth can't be a bad thing - especially if it also strenthens other craftables like kegs etc. Well, there could be so much more to UO... I remember seeing a thread on Stratics several years ago. A very long thread. There was this guy that created several new crafter skills and even created and included item graphics. I can't remember in detail, but I remember thinking, that this guy must be a genius and EA/OSI has to recruit him. I remember he suggested that animals (tameables and some only for decoration) could be sold via vendors too and cut be put in houses. Tinkers would make cages that can be put up etc.

Chris said it's in the works and it will have the unique and special touch that all systems on UOR have.

I enjoyed gardening. The Solen Hive quests/Hag quest were also excellent. I have really fond memories of those.

    Thank you!

As I recall, gardening was introduced alongside a series of quests. A new mob type of giant insects called "solen" were the basis, with solen hives and several quests related to the invasion. http://www.uoguide.com/Solen_Hives These quests used a new interface. Several rare seeds could be obtained: http://www.uoguide.com/Naturalist_Quest

Grizelda the Hag was another quest that required collecting a variety of items: http://www.uoguide.com/The_Hag's_Assistant
This corresponded to a new minigame with plague beasts: http://www.uoguide.com/Mutation_Core

Plant-based dye was introduced in the SA expansion:

This content was introduced in 2002, (save the plant dye), so it's newer than the Renaissance era, obviously, but was a cool framework for new content. It culminated in Yew being cleansed or remaining a swamp for several years. I was really impressed with it at the time and I remember the contemporaneous dev team being my favorite.

Was just wondering why Gardening was not active in this server.

Remove any PvP item enhancement and it's a great sandbox mini-game that boosts the natural economy of skills rather than farming these elves to get rich...

Glassblowing was also a great system to create empty bottles and house decorations. I'm sure more creative items could be added.
